Kindergarten in Singapore at Pegasus

A warm, trilingual international kindergarten in Novena, central Singapore, for children aged 5 to 6. Across Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2, children learn through inquiry, play and real experiences — and grow into confident communicators ready for Primary School.

For families looking for a kindergarten in Singapore, the real question is rarely academics alone. It is whether a child will feel understood, speak up with confidence and genuinely love to learn — and arrive at Primary School ready for everything that comes next. At Pegasus International Preschool, that is exactly where we begin. It is our motto: Soar with Confidence.

Pegasus is a trilingual, Reggio Emilia–inspired international preschool in Novena, and our Kindergarten years — Kindergarten 1 (age 5) and Kindergarten 2 (age 6) — are the culmination of that journey. English is our main classroom language, with Mandarin and Japanese woven naturally through every day, in a child-centred environment where every child is known by name.

The programme

Our Kindergarten Programme in Singapore

At Pegasus, Kindergarten is not a race to finish the alphabet. It is a rich, inquiry-based stage where children deepen their language, thinking and independence through meaningful projects and everyday discovery. Our educators follow each child’s curiosity and “why?”, extending the inquiry together rather than simply handing over answers.

The Kindergarten programme builds directly on our Nursery years and prepares children — gently and confidently — for the transition to Primary School. It runs across two age-based classes, each with a low teacher-to-child ratio, so every child is genuinely seen and supported.

How children learn

Learning Through Inquiry, Play and Real Experiences

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, we see every child as capable, curious and full of potential. Learning happens through inquiry, play and real experiences — investigating ideas, testing them, and expressing understanding in many ways, from conversation and story to art, construction and movement.

This is how children build the ability to think, to solve problems and to keep learning — skills that matter far more, and last far longer, than memorised facts.

English, Chinese and Japanese in Everyday Learning

At Pegasus, children grow up at ease in three languages. English remains the main language of the classroom, while Mandarin and Japanese appear naturally through songs, stories, routines, play and real conversation across the day — never as flashcards.

For children in the Kindergarten years, this trilingual environment deepens vocabulary and confidence in each language, and nurtures an openness to other people and cultures that serves them well beyond preschool.

Preparing Children for Primary School

By the Kindergarten years, our focus gradually extends to a happy, confident transition into Primary School. Rather than narrow drilling, children keep strengthening the things that help them thrive:

  • Language, communication and early literacy
  • Mathematical thinking and everyday problem-solving
  • Independent learning habits and self-help skills
  • Collaboration — sharing, taking turns and working in a group
  • Curiosity and the confidence to ask questions
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to adapt to a new environment

Most importantly, children develop the belief that their voice matters — so they enter Primary School ready to participate, unafraid to put up their hand.

For your family

Choosing a Kindergarten in Singapore

Every family’s priorities are a little different, but when you visit any kindergarten in Singapore, a few things are worth paying attention to:

  • The teaching approach — is learning inquiry-led and child-centred, or purely worksheet-driven?
  • The language environment — how, and how naturally, are languages used across the day?
  • The relationships — do teachers know each child well, and is the ratio genuinely low?
  • Programme fit — does the stage suit your child’s age, confidence and interests?
  • The environment — is the space safe, warm and set up for exploration?
  • Location and daily routine — is it convenient, with hours that work for your family?

The best way to answer these for your own child is to visit. We’d love to show you around Pegasus.
