The Heart of Learning at Pegasus: Where Curiosity Takes Flight

At Pegasus International Preschool, we believe every child is born curious — eager to explore, question, and discover. Our classrooms are alive with joyful learning, filled with wonder, art, music, and discovery.

This belief perfectly aligns with Singapore’s Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) Framework, which guides preschools to nurture confident, independent learners through play and exploration.

At Pegasus, we bring this framework to life with our Reggio-inspired philosophy, empowering children to lead their own learning journeys — because when children feel seen, heard, and supported, they truly begin to soar with confidence.

🌿 What Is the Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) Framework?

The NEL Framework is Singapore’s national preschool curriculum guide for children aged 4–6. First introduced in 2003 and refreshed in 2022, it sets the foundation for quality early childhood education in Singapore.

The updated framework highlights the importance of:

Values and character development

Social and emotional competencies

Learning dispositions

(curiosity, perseverance, confidence)

These are collectively known as VSLD, focusing on nurturing the whole child — not just academics, but heart, mind, and confidence.

It is supported by the iTeach Principles, which Pegasus fully embraces:

✅ Integrated approach
✅ Teachers as facilitators and co-learners
✅ Engaging children through purposeful play
✅ Authentic learning through meaningful interactions
✅ Children as constructors of knowledge
✅ Holistic development

🕊️ How Pegasus Brings the NEL Framework to Life

At Pegasus International Preschool, NEL is not just a checklist — it’s a living framework that inspires everything we do.

Our teachers act as co-learners and gentle guides, observing and responding to children’s interests, and helping them make sense of their world through meaningful experiences.

Instead of separating “math time” and “art time,” our project-based learning connects multiple domains in real-life contexts.

🎨 Drawing (Creative Expression):
Children illustrate what they see in their neighborhood — a nurse helping a patient, or a chef cooking in a restaurant. They discuss colors, uniforms, and emotions, turning art into storytelling.

📖 Storytelling (Language & Literacy):
Through stories like “People Who Help Us”, children imagine themselves in these roles. They then create their own mini-books or group stories, building vocabulary and communication skills.

👩‍🚒 Real-World Connections (Experiential Learning):
We invite guest speakers — such as a friendly police officer, nurse, or local baker — to share their stories. Children ask questions, try on uniforms, and even role-play their favourite helper!

What are the things in my home?

🧮 Counting (Numeracy):
They sort and count tools used by different helpers — how many stethoscopes, helmets, or delivery boxes — linking math to real-life scenarios.

💬 Discussions on Teamwork and Kindness (Social-Emotional):
Circle-time discussions encourage children to think about empathy and cooperation — “How does a doctor help people feel better?” or “How can I be a helper in my classroom?”

カリキュラム・課外活動

🏗️ Building & Collaboration (STEM & Confidence):
Using recyclable materials, children work together to build a mini “community town,” complete with roads, hospitals, and stores. This hands-on creation fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and pride in their achievements.

This holistic approach ensures every child learns deeply, not through rote memory, but through joyful discovery.

We also nurture confidence through reflection — guiding children to ask:

“How did I feel when my block tower fell?”
“What can I try differently next time?”
“How can I help my friend today?”

These small reflections shape big lessons — resilience, empathy, and self-awareness — the very qualities that help children soar of confidence

💖 Social – Emotional development Time – Soar with Feelings Circle
In these warm, guided group sessions, our teachers gently help children recognize and express their feelings, listen to others with empathy, and practice calm ways to respond when emotions run high. Whether it’s learning to say “no” firmly, asking for help, or comforting a friend, these moments build inner strength and self-regulation.

Over time, children learn not only how to stand up for themselves kindly, but also how to show care and respect for those around them — forming the foundation for lifelong emotional confidence.
