This Teacher’s Day at Pegasus International Preschool, our parents stepped into the classroom and became teachers for a day — sharing stories, leading activities and creating meaningful learning moments together with our children.
Teacher’s Day is a special opportunity to celebrate the people who guide, encourage and learn alongside our children every day.
This year at Pegasus, we marked the occasion a little differently. We invited our wonderful parents into the preschool to experience the classroom from a new perspective — as teachers for the day!
Parents Become Teachers for a Day
Throughout the celebration, parents joined the children in their learning spaces and took the lead in different activities.
Some shared stories with a classroom full of curious listeners. Others guided hands-on activities, encouraged conversations or explored alongside the children.
For the children, seeing Mum or Dad take on a different role in their familiar classroom environment brought plenty of excitement.
More importantly, it created opportunities for children, parents and educators to connect through something they all share: the joy of learning together.
Learning Through Real Experiences
Young children learn by doing.
Whether gathering for a story, investigating something outdoors or working with materials around a table, the day’s activities gave the children opportunities to observe, ask questions, participate and respond.
Instead of learning being something that happens only between a teacher and a child, Teacher’s Day became a shared experience involving the wider Pegasus community.
These moments reflect an important part of our approach to early childhood education — creating experiences that invite children to be curious, involved and confident participants in their own learning.
The Environment as the Third Teacher
Learning happened throughout the preschool that day: around classroom tables, during group discussions and outside in the natural environment.
In a Reggio Emilia-inspired learning environment, the surroundings themselves can play an important role in children’s discoveries.
Materials invite investigation. Spaces encourage interaction. Outdoor experiences introduce different questions and possibilities.
When thoughtfully designed, the environment becomes more than the place where learning happens — it helps encourage that learning.
Children’s Voices Matter
Another important part of the celebration was giving children space to participate in their own ways.
Children listened, responded, explored and contributed their ideas throughout the activities.
These interactions may appear simple, but they help children practise communicating what they think, listening to others, making choices and becoming increasingly confident in expressing themselves.
At Pegasus, we believe children’s ideas and questions can provide meaningful starting points for further exploration.
Celebrating Our Teachers, Parents and Children
Teacher’s Day may begin with recognising our educators, but this year’s celebration also highlighted the relationships surrounding every child.
Teachers bring their experience and guidance. Parents bring their knowledge of their children. Children bring their questions, ideas and curiosity.
When these relationships come together, learning becomes richer and more meaningful.
Thank you to all the parents who joined us and so enthusiastically became teachers for a day, and to our Pegasus educators for everything they do to create environments where children can explore, discover and grow.
