Mix, make and celebrate! Our Mid-Autumn Festival celebration brought together hands-on discovery, creativity and teamwork as the children explored festive traditions through meaningful classroom experiences.
At Pegasus International Preschool, celebrations are opportunities for children to do more than learn about a tradition. They can explore it through their senses, ask questions, experiment with materials and create something together.
For our Mid-Autumn Celebration 2026, the children rolled up their sleeves for a joyful day of mooncake making, creative exploration and shared discovery.
Making Mooncakes Together
One of the children’s favourite experiences was making their own mooncakes.
From preparing and mixing the ingredients to measuring, shaping and creating, the children took part in the process themselves. They observed how ingredients changed as they worked with them and discovered how individual ingredients could come together to create something completely new.
There were plenty of opportunities to practise taking turns, sharing ideas and helping one another along the way.
Rather than focusing only on the finished mooncakes, the experience encouraged children to notice what was happening throughout the process — because sometimes, the process matters just as much as what we make.
Learning Through Hands-On Exploration
Cooking together naturally created opportunities for learning.
As the children measured, poured and mixed ingredients, they encountered early mathematical and scientific ideas in a playful, age-appropriate way. They could compare quantities, observe different textures and notice the changes taking place in front of them.
These simple moments encouraged curiosity and conversation: What happens when we mix these ingredients? How does the texture change? What should we do next?
This kind of hands-on discovery reflects the way children learn at Pegasus — by exploring, questioning, experimenting and making connections through real experiences.
Creativity Through Water-Dye Printing
The celebration also included an artistic exploration with water-dye printing on fans.
Children watched colours flow across the surface, blend together and transform into unexpected patterns. Each creation developed differently, giving the children space to experiment with colour rather than trying to reproduce one predetermined result.
It was another opportunity to discover that creativity can come from exploring materials, observing what happens and following an idea wherever it leads.
Celebrating Culture Through Meaningful Experiences
The Mid-Autumn Festival gave our children an opportunity to experience a cultural tradition through activities they could actively participate in.
They weren’t simply hearing about mooncakes — they were making them.
They weren’t simply looking at festive artwork — they were experimenting with colour and creating their own.
And they weren’t experiencing the celebration alone. They were working alongside their friends, exchanging ideas, taking turns and enjoying what they had created together.
For us, those shared moments are an important part of the celebration.
